Our Leadership & Governance Structure

At the apex of the Ahaki Institute is a strong, dynamic, and highly resourced governance structure committed to the smooth running of the institute.  The governance structure consists of Directors, a Governing Council, an Advisory Board, and a Principal who are committed and seasoned experts with a track record of excellence in advocacy and the education sector who work collaboratively to support the delivery of the Institute’s mandate.

Directors:  The Directors serve as the founding backbone of the Institute, tasked with providing strategic vision and leadership essential for the effective governance and sustainability of the organization. Comprised of individuals who are extensively recognized as experts in health, human rights, and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) across Africa and beyond, the Directors possess a wealth of knowledge that informs their decision-making processes. They hold the authority to appoint the members of the Governing Council and the Vice Chancellor, ensuring that the institute adheres to the principles of accountability, transparency, and its core mission and vision across all organizational levels.

The Chancellor: The Chancellor represents the ceremonial head of the Institute, embodying its values and traditions. This role involves presiding over formal assemblies and events, where the Chancellor confers degrees and other academic honors on behalf of the institution. Appointed by the Directors upon the recommendation of the Governing Council, the Chancellor plays a crucial role in enhancing the Institute’s profile, fostering community relations, and bridging the gap between academic achievements and public representation.

Governing Council: The Governing Council functions as the Institute’s principal policy-making body, responsible for shaping the strategic direction and governance frameworks necessary for institutional success. It oversees the administration, resource management, and planning, ensuring alignment with the Institute’s objectives. The Council serves as a critical intermediary between the Directors and other governance structures, facilitating communication and collaboration. Its responsibilities include establishing policies, guiding academic program approvals, and monitoring institutional performance to maintain operational efficacy.

Vice Chancellor: The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the comprehensive coordination of all administrative, academic, and public relations activities. Acting as the primary liaison between the Directors, the public, and other academic entities both domestically and internationally, the Vice Chancellor plays a pivotal role in steering the day-to-day operations of the Institute. As the accounting officer, this position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, ensuring that the Institute functions smoothly and fulfills its strategic objectives effectively.
