Postgraduate Diploma in Sexual Reproductive Health

In this programme, students delve into theories of SRH and the law, scholarly writing, application of ICT in SRH Advocacy, research methods, the concept of Africentrism and its applicability, professional ethics and SRH Advocacy, advocacy for reproductive justice in Africa, and policy and stakeholder engagement. This will enhance student capacities and equip them with the skills to undertake advocacy utilizing tools and interventions rooted in Africentrism.

This is a novel course in which students delve into theories of SRH and the law, scholarly writing, application of Information Communication Technology in Sexual Reproductive Health advocacy, research methods, the concept of Africentrism and its applicability, professional ethics and SRH advocacy, advocacy for reproductive justice in Africa and policy and stake holder engagement. This will enhance participants’ capacities and equip them with the art to undertake advocacy utilizing tools and interventions rooted in Africentrism. A candidate may opt to write a dissertation at the end of this postgraduate diploma, upon which they shall be awarded a master’s degree.  

Although advocacy has been done in the arena of SRH, there is more that can still be done. This Programme offers a platform where SRH advocates have the opportunity to enhance their advocacy skills through studying courses like those listed herein. The focus of the Programme on a holistic and contextual understanding of SRH in the African setting through an Africentrism lens is unprecedented and provides students with opportunities to apply knowledge and skills from the Programme to undertake SRH Advocacy and litigation to address real-life situations.

  1. To introduce students to the core theories, principles, strategies and Africentric approaches for conducting SRHR Advocacy
  2. To equip the students with the knowledge and skills to identify, understand and tackle the dynamic SRHR issues within the national and regional African context utilizing Africentric approaches.
  3. To train students in designing and implementing SRH Advocacy plans and interventions integrating Africentric approaches in an ethical and professional manner.
  4. To prepare students for lifelong learning in SRH Advocacy

The minimum requirement for this Programme is a Bachelor’s degree with a second-class lower in Health, Gender Law, Development studies, social sciences, or any other related field from a reputable University or Other Degree-Awarding institution accredited by the Uganda National Council of Higher Education.
