Our Leadership & Governance Structure

At the apex of the Ahaki Institute is a strong, dynamic, and highly resourced governance structure committed to the smooth running of the institute.  The governance structure consists of Directors, a Chancellor, a Governing Council, an Advisory Board, and a Vice Chancellor who are committed and seasoned experts with a track record of excellence in advocacy and the education sector who work collaboratively to support the delivery of the Institute’s mandate.

 Directors

 The Directors serve as the backbone of the institute, tasked with providing the strategic vision and leadership that are essential for the effective governance of the organization. Comprised of individuals who are recognised as experts in health, human rights and sexual and reproductive health across, this knowledge informs their decision-making processes. They have the authority to appoint the members of the Governing Council and the Vice Chancellor.

 

 

The Chancellor

The Chancellor serves as the head of the Institute, embodying its core values. In this capacity, the Chancellor presides over formal assemblies and events, conferring degrees and academic Honors on behalf of the institution. Appointed by the Directors upon the recommendation of the Governing Council, the Chancellor plays a pivotal role in enhancing the Institute’s profile, fostering community relations, and bridging the gap between academic achievements and public representation.

Governing Council

The Governing Council functions as the institute’s principal policy-making body, responsible for shaping the strategic direction and governance frameworks necessary for institutional success. It oversees the institution’s administration, resource management and planning, ensuring their alignment with the broader objectives. The Council serves as a critical intermediary between the Directors and other governance structures, facilitating communication and collaboration. Its additional responsibilities include establishing policies, guiding academic program approvals and monitoring institutional performance to maintain operational efficacy.

Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the comprehensive coordination of all administrative, academic and public relations activities. Acting as the primary liaison between the Directors, the public and other academic entities, the Vice Chancellor plays a pivotal role in steering the day-to-day operations of the institute. As the accounting officer, this position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, ensuring that the institute functions smoothly and fulfils its strategic objectives effectively.
